The Memorial Plinth

The memorial plinth forms the foundation of each Earthbound memorial.

It is a sealed vessel, made from Portland stone, that holds the remaining cremated remains not used within the soil of the tree. Once placed, it sits discreetly at the base of the planter, beneath the tree.

Each plinth is handmade, and the natural variation in the material means that the finish, and therefore the engraving, will differ slightly from piece to piece.

Alongside the remaining ashes, the memorial plinth can also accommodate small personal keepsakes. These items are sealed within the memorial as a permanent part of the tribute: perhaps a handwritten note, a piece of jewellery, a photograph, a lock of hair, or another small object of personal significance.

Keepsakes are included only where size allows. If a larger item needs to be accommodated we can discuss using a larger plinth, where appropriate.

Part of the
Wider Memorial System

The plinth has been specifically designed by Earthbound to work as part of the wider memorial system.
Its form allows for airflow and drainage beneath the growing pot, helping to maintain a stable environment for the tree.

It also elevates the position of the plant within the planter, removing the need for additional soil to fill the space and allowing for a cleaner, more considered presentation.

This structure makes the memorial easier to manage over time, including repotting and repositioning where needed.

As the tree matures, roots will naturally extend beyond the felt pot and begin to grow around the plinth, gradually integrating the elements of the memorial over time.

Each plinth is carefully prepared, engraved, filled, and sealed before being placed within the memorial.

The Memorial Plinth

Once sealed, the plinth is designed to remain undisturbed.
