Materials & Environmental Responsibility

Environmental responsibility at Earthbound is expressed through considered material choice, local production and long-term durability. We look closely at origin, composition and lifespan.

The Living Memorial

At the centre of each memorial is a living tree.

It absorbs carbon.
Supports pollinators.
Strengthens soil.

It grows within its environment rather than sitting apart from it.

Local Production & Engraving

Memorial engraving is completed locally using precision laser engraving. Production and finishing remain within our region, reducing transport distances.

We choose to support small independent businesses, keeping elements of each memorial within local supply chains rather than large-scale overseas production.

Hidden Foundation

The hidden foundation vessel is produced in the UK using stone-based materials incorporating naturally occurring earth oxides.
There are no plastic liners and no synthetic shells.

Once placed underground, it remains stable and inert. It does not fragment or introduce composite materials into the soil. It is designed to remain undisturbed.

Plant Containers

We use breathable fabric plant pots made from recycled materials.

They reduce reliance on hard plastic nursery pots and support healthy root development through natural air pruning.

The containers are durable and reusable.

Solid Planters

Where selected, we supply solid outer planters formed from GRC (glass reinforced concrete), sourced from a UK supplier. Designed for strength and longevity, they are frost-resistant, mineral-based and intended to remain in place for years rather than seasons.

Customers may also choose to source their own planter if preferred.

Scatter Tube

The scatter tube is card-based and shipped from within the UK. It can enter standard recycling streams after use.

Packaging

All core packaging components are UK crafted.
We prioritise paper-based materials and avoid laminated finishes wherever possible.

Kraft Paper

We work with an independent supplier, supporting thoughtful production at a human scale. The kraft paper is recycled, plastic-free and printed using water-based inks.

Structural Packaging

Rigid packaging is paperboard-based and fully recyclable within standard household waste streams.
Mixed-material constructions are avoided to preserve recyclability.

Ashes Scattering
- Hampshire

Where families choose not to retain all cremated remains, a portion may be scattered on private managed land in Hampshire.

Scattering is carried out respectfully and in controlled quantities.

Cremated remains are mineral-based and return calcium and trace elements to the soil.

The land supports grasses, pollinators and native planting.

Ongoing commitment
We continue to review supplier proximity, packaging weight, recyclability and material longevity. We are developing a structured environmental contribution programme and have begun exploratory conversations with national woodland and land management bodies. As Earthbound grows, this commitment will become more formalised and measurable.
