Repotting Your
Memorial Tree
Moving to the next size up
Your memorial tree has been designed so it can continue to grow without disturbing what sits at its centre.
The tree should always remain within its existing felt pot. When more space is needed, the entire pot is placed into the next size up.
Before you begin
You will need:
- the next size up felt growing pot
- fresh peat-free compost suitable for your tree
- a scoop or trowel
- water
Important things to remeber
- Do not remove the tree from its original felt pot
- Do not disturb the soil or cremains
- Do not lift the tree by the trunk
- Ensure the base layer remains firm and level
- Ensure water can drain freely from the planter
Repotting Steps
1. Remove the tree
Gently lift the tree from the planter, supporting the pot from beneath.
Do not lift by the trunk.
Set the tree aside carefully.
2. Lift out the memorial plinth
3. Adjust the base layer if needed
- add or remove pebbles as needed
- build the layer gradually
- ensure it forms a flat, level, stable surface Press lightly so it does not shift.
4. Return the memorial plinth
Place the memorial plinth back into the planter, on top of the pebble layer.
Ensure it is:
- level
- fully supported
- not rocking
5. Prepare the new pot
Place a small amount of fresh compost into the base of the new, larger felt pot.
Add only enough so that the existing pot will sit at the correct height once in place.
6. Place the existing pot into the new one
7. Fill around the sides
Add fresh compost around the outside of the existing pot.
Work slowly and evenly, gently firming as you go.
Do not compact heavily.
8. Return the tree to the planter
9. Check positioning
- sitting level
- stable
- not rocking
