THE ENGRAVED STONE

Each Earthbound memorial includes a personalised engraved stone, selected for its permanence, weight, and quiet presence.

Placed at the base of the tree, it provides a fixed and enduring point within the memorial, set beneath the living tribute above.

Crafted from natural volcanic glass, the stone is engraved and hand-finished to hold words chosen in remembrance.

The stone measures approximately 9 × 5 cm.

Obsidian

Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, formed when molten lava cools rapidly and settles into a dense, stable material.
Across cultures and throughout history, it has been valued for its strength and durability, shaped into tools and ceremonial objects, and regarded as a material of protection and grounding.

Its formation is sudden and complete – a transition from fluid to solid, held in a fixed state. This gives obsidian a distinct sense of permanence, with a surface that reflects light with clarity and depth.

Stone Variations

The engraved stone is presented in obsidian, with natural variations in tone and surface.

Black Obsidian
A deep black form of obsidian with a smooth, uniform surface. Its consistency allows the engraving to sit with clear contrast and definition.
Mahogany Obsidian
A variation containing iron-rich mineral patterning, introducing warmer brown tones within the surface. Each piece carries subtle differences, shaped by the conditions in which it formed. The engraving remains precise, though its visibility may shift slightly depending on the natural patterning.

Engraving

The scale of the stone naturally limits the length of the inscription. Most families choose to include a name, dates, and a short phrase that holds personal meaning.

The engraving is set in a considered format, designed to sit quietly within the surface of the stone.
