I took Hilda’s Lounge full time in late 2020, at a time when many were reflecting on their lives and careers.<\/span><\/h3>\n

I had a secure position in a busy, well-regarded workshop, but decided it was time to seek new challenges under my own steam.<\/span> A degree in Furniture Design, a background in manufacturing, and later experience of more general upholstery gave me a solid foundation to build on.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whilst I am open to all upholstery projects, I find myself consistently drawn to bespoke work with designers where the brief genuinely challenges my making and demands real technical problem-solving.\u00a0I feel I\u00a0am moving into an era of greater skill and confidence \u2014 one that lends itself to playing more creatively with materials and methods. I believe this will lead to increasingly better design\u00a0solutions and\u00a0keep the work endlessly rewarding.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Guildhall Bow\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”29″][vc_column_text css=””]Photo Credit to Ming Wu of Makers Guild<\/a> 2025<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”14″][vc_column_text css=””]My workshop is\u00a0located\u00a0on the upper second floor of the Guildhall building, alongside the Makers Guild<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0a shared workspace for local makers. When Ming (director of the Makers Guild) mentioned that the Guildhall Trust were hoping to install a large bow to the exterior of the building for Christmas, I tried to resist getting involved. But the challenge was too good to pass up. With a tight budget and just a month to build, the problem-solving began\u00a0immediately.
