{"id":14552,"date":"2024-01-07T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-07T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2design.co\/ebikeeurope\/ebike-battery-the-debate\/"},"modified":"2026-05-31T11:17:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T10:17:33","slug":"ebike-battery-the-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2design.co\/ebikeeurope\/ebike-battery-the-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebike Battery &#8211; The Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Ebike Battery &#8211; The Debate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ebike Battery &#8211; The debate is a constant topic of conversation, and many people want to know how long the battery will last and how long it will take to charge it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This subject is very complex as it relies on a lot of different aspects, which will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">Your weight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">The length of your route<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">The height gain on the route<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">Size of your battery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">The speed you are travelling at<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"\">The power level you use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Age of the battery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There could be other factors, depending on whether you have panniers with you on a tour or if you are carrying a day pack, as well as the manufacturer and a variety of other variables. However, this is my experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2design.co\/ebikeeurope\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_7117-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Mozart Route\" class=\"wp-image-4042\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott bike with a 625-watt battery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Charges of an Ebike Battery &#8211; The Debate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have a Bosch 625W battery on my bike, which is 5 years old, and I use it a lot. Therefore, it has been charged a greater number of times than someone who only uses their bike now and again. The number of charges of the battery will affect its life and how long it holds a charge when in use. My battery holds an average of 80 km of charge based on a fairly flat route with c.a. 400m of ascent. When I do a mountain trip, I can get a maximum of 800m and an elevation of 10% at a medium pace out of a full charge. I would, however, always charge my battery when I stopped for coffee and lunch to ensure it didn&#8217;t drop too low. From that, I\u00a0deduce they are not going that far. The reason is that speed and level of power influence how much battery power will be used. The weight of the person riding the bike will also have an effect, especially when the route is hilly. If it gets steeper than 8% &#8211; 10%, I will use \u201csport\u201d.  I know roughly how long I have when I am on roads and paths that I cycle all the time. When I am in unknown territory, I will take my charger with me to top up when I stop for coffee or lunch. If I want to top it up during the day, the rule of thumb is 30 &#8211; 45 minutes to get 1 of the 5 bars charged. An hour lunch stop can generally give me enough to see me through the afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> I normally charge my battery when it is on the bike at the end of the day.&nbsp; However, when I am on a 3 or 4-day tour, I will take it off the bike to my room and charge it. I will leave it charging for 4 hours and unplug it overnight. I always put it on for another quick charge in the morning to confirm to myself that it is fully charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Obviously, this is my battery, and for all the points mentioned above is how long it takes my battery to charge or power out.
